Delivering For Our Community – Kensington Cricket And Burnside Rugby To Receive $8 Million New Clubrooms
The antiquated clubrooms of the Kensington & Districts Cricket Club and Burnside Rugby Club will receive a complete rebuild with Federal Member for Sturt James Stevens confirming a $3.6 million Commonwealth commitment towards the project.
Coupled with existing pledges made by the South Australian Government of $2.67 million and the Burnside Council committing up to $2 million, the new clubrooms project is now fully funded to proceed.
“I am thrilled to make this commitment and deliver this transformation of the facilities for the Kensington Cricket Club and Burnside Rugby Club” James Stevens said.
“I have worked closely with both clubs for the past three years as we have secured local and state government commitments, and now this federal funding enables the rebuild for the two clubs.
“The new clubrooms will include suitable changerooms and facilities for female participation in both sports, as well as becoming a broader community facility for other local groups to use for meetings and events.
“I have been committed to delivering upgrades to local recreational and sporting facilities throughout the electorate over the past 3 years, having already secured major upgrades to the Max Amber Sportsfield, Hectorville Sports and Community Club, Old Collegians Rugby Club, Glenunga Tennis Club, Burnside Lacrosse Club, the ETKG Tennis, the Tusmore Park Wading Pool and the Athelstone Recreational Reserve.
“A good local member delivers for their community and secures investments that continue to enhance our local neighbourhood and improve facilities for families.”
The existing building was built in 1964 and has had very little work done to it in the almost 60 years since.
The Morrison Government continues to deliver for the Sturt community and this announcement is part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
