Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day

04 Mar 2025

Over the weekend, I was pleased to join members of the Eastern Districts Soroptimists in Hazelwood Park and the Athelstone-Rostrevor Lions Club in Ambers Gully to take part in the annual Clean Up Australia Day. These dedicated community groups work tirelessly throughout the year, and it was fantastic to see so many volunteers coming together to pick up litter and clean up our environment.

Clean Up Australia Day is Australia’s largest community-based environmental event. Held annually on the first Sunday in March, the event sees groups of citizens come together to clean up litter across the country.

More than 22 million Aussies have participated in Clean Up Australia Day activities and events over the past three decades. If you would like to participate next year you can register a Clean Up or join a Clean Up by visiting www.cleanup.org.au.

Clean Up Australia Day is a great reminder of the power of community action. By removing rubbish from our parks and walking trails, we are not only improving the natural beauty of our local area but also protecting our environment for future generations. It was heartening to be with volunteers rolling up their sleeves and doing their part for the community.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to the Soroptimist Club and the Athelstone-Rostrevor Lions Club for their leadership and commitment to this important initiative. Their work ensures that our local parks remain places of enjoyment for families, walkers, and nature lovers alike.

Keeping our environment clean is a responsibility we all share. Whether it’s through organised events like Clean Up Australia Day or simple daily actions, we can all contribute to maintaining a sustainable and beautiful Sturt electorate.
