Last week, we saw yet another tragic truck-car accident on Portrush Road. This serves as a reminder that Adelaide is the only capital city in Australia without a truck bypass. This cannot be allowed to continue.

My campaign to get heavy trucks off Portrush Road by building the Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass has grown rapidly since its launch last March. Considering the unacceptable frequent truck-car accidents on Portrush Road, we must build the bypass to prevent further crashes and risks to pedestrians.

The Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass would see heavy freight diverted around the back of the Adelaide Hills and along the Sturt Highway, bypassing Portrush Road and our local suburbs completely.

At a local level, I am pleased that the Burnside Council has also been advocating strongly to get trucks off Portrush Road. They have prepared a fact sheet regarding the Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass, which you can read by clicking here.

On Sunday, I hosted a community forum in Urrbrae alongside Tony Pasin MP, the Federal Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety, The Hon. Ben Hood MLC, the State Shadow Minister for Transport and Infrastructure and Nicole Flint, the Liberal candidate for Boothby to provide constituents with an update on our plan to get heavy trucks out of our hills and suburbs.

I will keep fighting until we get funding restored for the Greater Adelaide Freight Bypass and get heavy freight trucks off Portrush Road.
