The Australian Government has confirmed that Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will travel to Canberra and Sydney during their visit to Australia from 18 to 23 October.
While The King has previously made 16 visits to Australia, this will be his first as Sovereign following his Accession in 2022 and the first visit to Australia by a reigning monarch since 2011.
The King and Queen will visit Parliament House in Canberra, where His Majesty will address a reception for political and community leaders and prominent Australians who have excelled in the fields of health, arts, culture and sports. Their Majesties will also lay a wreath at the Australian War Memorial and visit the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Memorial.
The King will visit the CSIRO to learn more about their efforts to tackle bushfires and meet Australian of the Year recipients Professor Georgina Long AO and Professor Richard Scolyer AO to learn about their ground-breaking melanoma research.
In Sydney, The King and Queen will conduct a Fleet Review of the Royal Australian Navy and attend a community barbecue.
While the King will not be stopping in South Australia due to health advice, His Majesty shares a long history with our State and the Sturt electorate. On his first visit to South Australia in 1977, the then Prince of Wales addressed 5,000 students and youth representatives at Norwood High School to encourage support for The Queen’s Silver Jubilee Appeal for Young Australians. In 2012, the then Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall also visited Penfolds’ historic Magill Estate, where they savoured the State’s finest produce and a rare 1962 Shiraz made by legendary South Australian winemaker Max Schubert AM.
The King and Queen have also provided their official Australian portraits in which The King wears The Sovereign's Badge of the Order of Australia and The Queen wears the Wattle Brooch, which was gifted to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Australia in 1954.
The portraits are available for individuals to download for private use, and printed copies can be requested through my office.
