Sturt and the South Australian Living Artists Festival

Sturt and the South Australian Living Artists Festival

02 Sep 2024

The constituency of Sturt has been a lively hub of exhibitions and open studios during the South Australian Living Artists Festival (‘SALA’) held throughout August.

Recognised as the largest visual arts festival in Australia, SALA celebrates the richness and diversity of South Australia’s emerging and professional visual artists.

During the festival, I visited the Burnside Painting Group’s annual SALA exhibition held in the Burnside Civic Centre, which allowed the community to exhibit their latest works in all mediums.

I also had the pleasure of visiting the Studio Potters SA ceramics exhibition at the Pepper Street Arts Centre. The exhibition marked 70 years of Studio Potters SA, which has become one of the most successful ceramic groups in South Australia.

Other notable exhibitions in the electorate included the ‘Garden's Palette’ exhibition held in the Pepper Street Arts Centre, the Bittondi Printmaker’s exhibition ‘Extending the Line’, ‘Objects from the Heart’ by Janine Rosser and Cathy Brooks and ‘Making the Cut’ by Rosalie Day held in The Gallery at St Peters Town Hall.

Notable Athelstone artist Salvador Loreto also launched his new exhibition, ‘Loretismo,' which featured his interpretation of cubism and surrealism at the Dawn to Dusk Cafe and Restaurant in Newton.

Many impressive works from talented local artists showcased our local community’s artistic talents and cultural vibrancy.
