I am thrilled that the Commonwealth Government has committed $5 million in the recent budget towards upgrades to Linear Park along the River Torrens. This announcement will see investments in better recreational and environmental outcomes along the Torrens from the hills to the sea.
In our local area, this allows us to work with local councils to upgrade pathways, lighting and playgrounds along the Torrens, as well as clearing weeds and other pests, cleaning up hazards and revegetating banks with native species. This will bring natural improvements to the habitat of native wildlife.
We have already undertaken many projects along the Torrens in Sturt, most recently the new pollutant trap at Second Creek as well as the Felixstow Reserve. We are funding local Landcare groups and other community projects to clear weeds and revegetate creeks throughout the Torrens catchment.
This new commitment will provide the next phase of funding to improve the enjoyment we all receive from recreational and leisure activities along the Torrens, together with equally significant environmental outcomes.
