James Stevens MP Media Release: Rudd Doubles the Pride

Rudd Doubles the Pride

13 September 2024

New Freedom of Information documents obtained by the Coalition reveal the exorbitant cost of Kevin Rudd's latest Pride Party at the Australian Embassy in Washington.

The bill for Ambassador Rudd's shindig in June this year came to almost $70,000, which included a performance by Australian group, Electric Fields, and a return of DJ Kitty Glitter.

This comes on the back of Rudd's $20,000 Pride Party last year and $300,000 party he hosted in January.

Opposition waste spokesman, James Stevens, said "Kevin Rudd continues to engage in lavish entertainment at the taxpayer’s expense.

“There are many important aspects of the Ambassador’s role, but all we seem to hear about is Dr Rudd’s proclivity for partying.

“Dr Rudd’s extravagance and high living could not be further from the experience of Australian families who are struggling to pay their mortgages, rent and household bills.

“Anthony Albanese must explain why he thinks it is appropriate for his ambassador to spend our money in this way, when everyday Australians are suffering through Labor’s long and painful cost of living crisis," Mr Stevens said.
