CORONAVIRUS VACCINE TO BE PRODUCED LOCALLY AND MADE FREE FOR ALL AUSTRALIANS

The Morrison Government will ensure every Australian has access to a free and voluntary coronavirus vaccine which will be manufactured locally.

If promising trials prove successful, the Australian Government has secured more than 84.8 million vaccine doses for the Australian population, almost entirely manufactured in Australia, with early access to 3.8 million doses of the University of Oxford vaccine likely to be available in January and February next year.

Australia is identifying and supporting world-leading research to accelerate the development and manufacturing of coronavirus vaccines. Australia is already among the best countries in the world at producing vaccines, putting us in a strong position to be able to roll out a coronavirus vaccine quickly and safely.

We are taking advice from Australia’s best medical and scientific experts to ensure that the Government’s work to select, purchase and produce a coronavirus vaccine is based on the best available knowledge.

This commitment forms a crucial part of the Morrison Government’s response to coronavirus and our strategy to protect the health and wellbeing of Australians and our economy.
