Plastic Free July

Plastic Free July

22 Jul 2024

This month is Plastic Free July which is a movement that helps people and businesses be part of the solution to plastic pollution meaning cleaner streets, oceans and communities for all.

Throughout the month and beyond we should think of ways to abstain from single-use plastics and to maintain awareness of our environmental impact through unnecessary waste.

This year's theme is 'Small steps, big difference', and some of the ways we can have a positive impact include bringing a reusable cup for your daily coffee, storing food in reusable containers instead of using cling wrap, and avoiding pre-packaged foods by instead choosing bulk or loose items.

If you own a small business located within the Eastern Region Alliance namely the Cities of Burnside, Norwood Payneham & St Peters, Campbelltown and Unley you may wish to attend a free information session on Wednesday 24 July, 4pm – 6pm to learn about the impact of single-use plastic legislation changes.

Hosted by Boomerang Alliance, the session will inform businesses on South Australia's single-use and other plastic products legislation, including changes announced by the South Australia Government which are effective from 1 September 2024. It will cover the current and upcoming legislation details and outline how Plastic Free SA can support businesses in preparing for these plastic product bans, in engaging with suppliers ahead of these bans, and in reviewing current packaging to find sustainable alternatives.
