Standing up for the River Murray

Standing up for the River Murray

01 Dec 2021

There has been attention this year on the Murray Darling Basin Plan (MDBP) as some eastern state politicians have sought to undermine the full roll out of the plan.

I have taken the opportunity both in the parliament and through the media to make crystal clear my complete opposition to any attempts to undermine the MDBP. From community feedback, it is clear the MDBP has strong support from my constituents in Sturt.

It is the policy of the Morrison Government to deliver the current plan, on time and in full – this means 3,200 gigalitres of water and not a drop less.

As I have made very clear in my speeches to parliament, the MDBP has no winners or losers but manages these competing interests between human sustainment, the economy, and the environment. It is my strong position that any changes to undermine this complex arrangement would cause extreme damage to current and future generations in all communities throughout the Murray Darling Basin.

I have made my support for the MDBP very clear throughout my term in parliament, and I will continue to oppose any legislative changes to the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
